Goodbye Empties #5

clean and clear essentials moisturiser australis fresh and flawless foundation covergirl clean biore pore stripsAnother quarter of the year has passed so it is time for another Empties post. It seems that three months is the magic number - the time that it takes me to finish up a sufficient number of products that I deem reasonable for an empties post. There is nothing quite as satisfying as dumping the finished loot in the recycling bin afterwards, am I right ladies?

Australis Fresh & Flawless Makeup (AUD$12.95)
Being one of my first foundations, I was easily impressed. Now, its light coverage and ill-matching shade just doesn't do it for me. It has a matte finish but I am a bit over the matte foundations to be honest. Considering that I've had this sitting around for four years (feel free to judge), it was high time that I threw it out.
Repurchase? No.

Covergirl Clean Foundation (AUD$15.50)
Another foundation that I'm throwing out; simply due to the fact that it just really sucked. Atrocious colour match due to my ignorance, greasy feel and horrible smell just means it's heading for the trash.
Repurchase? Clearly not.

Clean & Clear Essentials Moisturiser SPF 15 (AUD$8.99)
This may surprise some of you but I actually use the same moisturizer for daytime and night, which is this one. It provides a fairly light layer of moisture so I like to load it up in the evenings, which may explain why this is already my second bottle. The fact that it contains SPF 15 makes me feel slightly less guilty about slacking off on the sunscreen during the day. I like it, but I've found something better.
Repurchase? Maybe.

Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips (AUD$5.79)
This seemed like a "must try" product and I had never tried a pore strip before so I was fairly excited at first. Initially, I did see results in the form of those little white things hanging off the strip, but from the third use onwards, I just did not see it doing anything for my nose. Maybe that meant it was doing a great job? I am thankful to have the rare blackhead on the nose so that may be why it was harder to see results. There was an occasion where I did have several that popped up but was disappointed to see that the pore strip was not able to grab them.
Repurchase? No, as it was not as effective as I would like.

skincare sukin foaming facial cleanser witch hazel toner
This is something that always makes an appearance in my empties posts because it is my absolute favorite cleanser of all time. I believe I have raved enough about this product on my blog so long story short, this is the perfect gentle cleanser for sensitive skin.
Repurchase? Always.

Sukin 'Sensitive' Cleansing Gel (AUD$9.99)
Seeing as how obsessed I am with the Foaming Facial Cleanser, I thought this other offering by Sukin targeted at 'sensitive' skin would be a match made in heaven. Unfortunately, I was let down. I'm not sure if it is simply due to my skin being used to the other cleanser, but this 'sensitive' version just did not agree with my skin. It caused little red bumps and after the first couple of uses, I put it into my empties bag.
Repurchase? No.

Witch Hazel Toner by T.N. Dickinson (AUD$6.59)
Here is another product that I cannot stop raving about. It has been my HG toner for awhile now and I am really happy with how it restores balance to my skin and controls breakouts. I once ran out and went without it for a day and there was a noticeable difference in my skin. I always have a back-up ready so I never run out of it.
Repurchase? Definitely, it is something I buy over and over.

hair products palmolive herbal essences dandruff
Hair products are usually what I finish the most of but my mum has a tendency to chuck them out despite my cries of anguish, so I only have a few to show you.

Palmolive Ayuriteal Joyous Shower Gel with Indian Mulberry & Lotus Flower (AUD$4.95)
I'm not too picky with shower gels as long as they do the job. This was an alright product and had a nice scent, but I have a thing about body washes that come in 'gel' form. Sometimes they feel like they just slip off the body and wash down the drain without delivering any real benefits to the skin.
Repurchase? No.

Organic Care Conditioning Anti-Dandruff Shampoo (AUD$3.80)
I admit it; dandruff and an itchy scalp are part of my hair struggles. A lot of shampoos that I have tried in the past that claim to be anti-dandruff just did not deliver but this is one of those that was effective in managing the hair 'snow'.
Repurchase? Highly possible.

Palmolive Naturals Anti-Dandruff Shampoo with Tea Tree & Eucalyptus (AUD$5.31)
This is my favorite shampoo when it comes to fighting the dandruff. It is really effective at preventing the constant itchiness and smells amazing. My heart broke when I went to numerous stores and could no longer find it as it seems like it is being discontinued. If I ever see it, I will literally snag up ten bottles.
Repurchase? Yes Yes Yes.

Herbal Essences Replenishing Conditioner for Coloured/Permed/Dry/Damaged Hair (AUD$7.99)
Herbal Essences is my go to brand for conditioners ever since I was young. It was one of those products that always worked for my hair, making it soft and easy to brush out. My hair type isn't what this particular one is targeted towards but it still did the job. However, I prefer the one in the yellow bottle for 'Normal Hair'.
Repurchase? Not likely.

makeup remover cleansing wipes beauty care co wotnot
Wotnot Facial Wipes
Makeup wipes are a rarity in my empties post because I'm not really a big fan of them and prefer to double cleanse, but the Wotnot wipes had a pleasant scent and was moist enough to remove a majority of my makeup. I did enjoy using them but I don't use wipes often enough to justify getting another pack.
Repurchase? No.

Beauty Care Co Fragrance Free Facial Wipes (AUD$2)
Like I said, I do not usually use wipes but these cheap Kmart branded ones sucked me in. Plus, it came in a pack of thirty which I thought was a great deal. These were surprisingly good, and did not dry out until the very last ones in the pack. They performed well in taking off eye makeup and were a pleasure to use.
Repurchase? Maybe. If I needed wipes, I would pick these up again.

What do you think about any of these products?

  2. I used to use Witchhazel when I was a teen but I think it's too harsh for my skin. Then again, I wasn't good with moisturizing as a teen, so that could have been it... hmmm. Might need to pick it up and try again :) Great empties post!

    1. Well skincare definitely is subjective! I find it really helps control breakouts.

  3. Omg...I'm so jealous that you still have the original herbal essence hair line there! It's almost completely phased out here! Sorry to hear about the foundations! I have a few too that I had to throw out because they weren't the right shade, too dark, too orange and they couldn't be saved although I have lighter shades to mix. The thing about nose strips that I've come across is that most girls either use too much or too little water on the nose and then the strip isn't as effective. I've only ever used biores and everytime I get plenty of gunk coming out! Maybe change your technique of application? Because they do wonder whenever I apply them for my friends and myself!

    1. Yeah maybe I do need to change it up! I used a bit of water just to loosen the strip to peel it off. But now that my pack is all gone, I can't improve my application xD

  5. I agree with those gel body washes! I really like the scent of that Palmolive one for some reason - it must be the holiday memories I associate it with haha but when I'm using it I always managed to get red/pink goops just sitting there on the shower floor...what a waste :(

  6. Awesome job with the empties! It's been so long since I've used a pore strip, they used to be my go-to in high school!

  7. I love Biore nose stripes! I know some people think they're bad for you but it's so satisfying to see all the blackheads being pulled out lol. I'm sorry to hear you did like them...but have you tried putting the stripe on straight after you get out a warm shower? That's the most effective time to use them in my opinion

    1. Oh thanks for the tip! Maybe it's just because I don't have many blackheads on my nose o.O

  8. I've been curious about the witch hazel toner for a while but havn't seen anyone ever talk about it. I should have picked it up in the priceline sale! Oh well

  9. A little bit disappointed to hear about the Biore strips, I haven't tried them but I had been meaning to for awhile, however I don't think I will now! I've also heard a lot about the witch hazel so I'm really keen to try that it sounds really good! Nice amount empties you have here by the way!

    1. I know it has worked really well for some people. If you have a lot of blackheads, it'll probably work! I don't so it may be why I didn't see any difference.

  11. Great post Sheri! I just love reading empties posts for some reason. You managed to finish up quite a few products so good on you!!! I really want to try that Sukin cleanser. It sounds lovely but I have so many other cleansers I am trying to get through first. I really enjoyed this post :)

  13. Sukin make some really gentle, effective products that don't break the bank. I've not tried the cleanser you feature here, but I have tried the cream cleanser which is really nice. I do get some perverse enjoyment from using a Biore pore strip but I agree, they're not really all that effective in terms of actually eliminating blackheads.
