Such a Shady Lady

the balm shady lady vol 2 palette eyeshadow

TheBalm Cosmetics have always intrigued me. Not just from their unique packaging, but also due to the hype the brand tends to get in the Blogging and Youtube world.
Due to its more higher-end price tag, I have not been able to justify it to myself to purchase any of their products until I won the Shady Lady Vol. 2 Palette in a giveaway. Needless to say, I was excited to finally test the brand for myself.
Read on to find out my thoughts on this little palette!

Just like their other products, the Shady Lady Vol. 2 Palette has a sleek, eye-catching packaging that makes it very travel-friendly. It also comes with a big, and actually useful mirror and 9 different eyeshadows. The shade names themselves are also playful and creative:
Caught in the act Courtney | Feisty Felicia | Insane Jane  | Bossy Bobbi  | Makeout Mary  | Just this once Jamie  | Mischievous Marissa  | Tempting Tara  and Devilish Danielle.

Of course after all the hype I've heard about theBalm, my expectations were high. I was anticipating good quality eyeshadows and was not disappointed. The texture of the eyeshadows are smooth and soft, yet not too soft that you get an excessive amount of product. They are pigmented, but not overly pigmented that they're hard to work with.

Majority of the eyeshadows have a satin finish with the exception of Caught in the act Courtney and Feisty Felicia which are glittery. While I appreciate the variety, I am not typically a fan of glittery eyeshadows as they can lead to fallout and I can never find the appropriate occasion to sport glitter on my eyes. And like with many palettes I own, I just wish there were some matte shades included.

My personal favorites are Feisty Felicia because taupes are my ultimate eyeshadow love, as well as Devilish  Danielle, as shimmery pinks always have a special place in my heart. The more colorful of the bunch (the blue, green and purple shades) are also stunning and hopefully I will get the courage to wear them one day. The white, Tempting Tara, is a tad chalky which isn't surprising for a white but it could be worse.

Overall, I do like this palette and I wouldn't say it is an essential but it would be a nice addition to anyone's collection.

Available in David Jones Australia for AUD $49.95.
Available on TheBalm's official website for USD $39.50.

  1. I really love theBalm eyeshadows I have, I think the formula is really good. I'm not sure I would pick up this particular palette though. I agree, I think it needs some matte shades to break up the shimmer, and I probably would get much used out of all of the shades.

  5. I have a bunch of theBalm's stuff, and while the stuff is cute, I'm not sure the stuff is worth the ginormous price tag (DAT SHADE)(jk)(But seriously, $37 CAD for a box of blush? ._.'')
Mischievous Marissa and Insane Jane are definitely my favourite shades from this palette though!
