Searching for the Perfect Eye Cream

Contrary to this time about two years ago, my skin was not in its current dry, sorry state. It was more combination/oily and I didn't even know squat about eye creams, let alone deemed it necessary for there to be one in my skincare routine. I also used to dismiss the need for an eye cream because I considered them for "old people".
Now, eye cream is something I can't live without. Without some kind of hydration in the under eye area, the general region feels like it's suffocating and shriveling, and it just feels wrong.

For a long time, I haven't been able to pinpoint my favorite, holy-grail eye cream and recently, was given the opportunity to try some new ones. Today, I'll be showing you the eye creams I currently have on rotation and my thoughts on them.

The Sukin Antioxidant Eye Serum ($19.95 - 30ml) was the first product I turned to when I ran out of my previous eye cream. Instead of hunting for a replacement eye cream, I settled for stealing my mum's instead. Despite being called a 'serum', it still has the appearance of a white lotion. Apart from the finicky pump that dispenses way too much product each time, the product itself is decent. It does the job of hydrating the under eyes and isn't too thick so it is able to be absorbed fairly quickly. I like how affordable and natural the Sukin eye cream is but have yet to see an improvement in the overall appearance of my under eye area.

The next three eye creams are from Boots Laboratories. They are packaged in identical slim tubes that dispense just enough product. The three are very similar but have some subtle differences. Additionally, they are hypoallergenic which is perfect for my sensitive skin.

The first one that I was most interested in trying is the Optiva Radiance Boosting Eye Balm* ($22 - 15ml). It claims to soothe and brighten the eye area. It also contains one of the most unique ingredients I've come across; 'Marshmallow extract'. Doesn't that sound good? Fortunately, I was blessed with not having severely dark under eye circles and after using for a few weeks, I haven't seen much difference in terms of brightening. The Optiva eye cream is thinner than the Sukin eye cream but I find that it provides longer-lasting hydration. It does smooth out the area and is very gentle on the skin.

The next two eye creams both aim to fight early signs of ageing. The Serum7 Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream* ($28 - 15ml) works to - you guessed it - reduce the appearance of wrinkles. I have yet to reach that age when ageing starts to become a real concern but prevention is better than cure right? I can't really comment on how it performs in terms of combating wrinkles but I still did enjoy using it. I find that out of all the eye creams featured in this post, it has the thinnest consistency and so, is absolutely effortless at blending. I suppose this would be beneficial to those with wrinkles as you don't need to tug on the eye area creating more wrinkles.

Its sidekick, the Serum7 Fine Lines Eye Cream* ($26 - 15ml) claims to reduce fine lines. Again, I cannot judge that claim but I find that this particular eye cream absorbs the fastest, so the skin is soft to the touch. It performs well at the moisture front but overall, I don't particularly see a difference between this and the Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream.

If I were to pick a favorite from the bunch, I would probably go for the Optiva Radiance Boosting Eye Balm as I find the hydration under the eyes lasts the longest. In terms of price and the amount of product you get, Sukin offers a good option.

However, I'm still looking for the perfect eye cream for me, so leave your favorites down below!

  1. I'm using the one from Sanctuary Spa (one in a green container?) and it feels nice. Not sure if it's doing anything though hahaha

  2. Ohhh I've always wanted to use an eye serum but I've only been seeing some really, really expensive options! There are much more pocket-friendly. Might give the Optiva one ago because it sounds pretty good to me.
