Olay Fresh Effects Va-Va-Vivid! Cleansing System [Review]

As part of their new Fresh Effects range, Olay has released their

Va-Va-Vivid! Powered Contour Cleansing System

This seems to be their answer to a more affordable version of the Clarisonic, so naturally I was quite intrigued. It claims to deliver a 400% better clean, compared to basic soap cleansing.

It comes with the cleansing brush and the Olay Fresh Effects "Shine, Shine Go Away!" cleanser. I can't offer my thoughts on the cleanser as I used my own cleanser with the brush (knowing that my cleanser works best for my skin, as opposed to the Olay cleanser which could potentially break me out and might affect my thoughts on the brush itself).

The cleansing brush itself is quite small and fits in my hand perfectly. Its size helps makes it easier to manoeuvre (man that's hard to spell) and get a faster clean around the face. It's super easy to use with just two buttons to switch on and off.

Like the Clarisonic, this Olay cleansing brush vibrates. I simply pump my Sukin Foaming Facial Cleanser onto the brush and press it onto my face in circular motions. It gives a gentle, massaging sort of feel. I like how the rubber bristles are gently abrasive but not over-exfoliating.

Due to the triangular shape of the brush, I find this brush works best on the surface and in the corners of my nose. On the more sensitive parts of my face however, I feel like it loosened up my pores and thus brought my breakouts to the surface. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, however I noticed little red dots starting to appear on my chin so I've decided that I should stick to using this product on my nose.

Overall, I feel like this is a decent cleansing brush but my skin might be too sensitive for these kinds of devices. I think this would work best when used in the T-zone area. Also, it is convenient since you can also use it in the shower (but they recommend not to completely submerge it in water).

I think this would be suited to those who want to try a more affordable, easily accessible version of the Clarisonic and those who do not have very sensitive skin.

This product is available for AUD $16.99 .

  1. Thanks for the review, I was a bit curious about this! Is it completely waterproof that you can use it in the shower? And how does it go about makeup removal? That sucks to hear that it caused a bit of irritation on your skin, but your skin is very sensitive right? I might give this a go - or Olay's other brush cleanser, if either are ever on sale.

    1. Ooh, thanks for mentioning some points I forgot to include in my review. I'll include it now! And yes you can use it in the shower but not completely submerge it in water. and I haven't tried it to remove my makeup, only for morning cleansing.

  2. i also have one of olay's brushes and so far so good but if i use it on a daily basis, my skin tends to be more sensitive so i only use it every other day

  3. Muchas gracias por la información, me lo apunto.

    Un besín

  4. That's a very unique looking brush!
I am still waiting for the day I convince myself to finally splash out on the Clarisonic but there are now so many alternatives I just keep on researching lol

  5. I think anything else is much better than a soap cleanse haha imagining rubbing a bar of soap all over your face! eew! It's an interesting looking thing but a really good price!

  6. Are those rubber bristles or just normal like a toothbrush, lol? It's quite affordable at least though I'm not sure if it'd be too harsh for my skin. Sounds like it irritated parts of your skin so you primarily use it on your nose.

  7. Wow, it is significantly more affordable than the Clarisonic. Thanks for the review! Oh and I thought that the Clarisonic brush vibrates as well? It doesn't really rotate much, no? 'Cause I have one. :)

    1. Oh thanks for telling me! for some reason I thought it rotated. I'll correct my mistake now! :)

  8. This is so interesting... wonder how it compares to the Olay Regenerist cleansing tool which was their first 'Clarisonic' kind of product released last year. I love that one so would be interested in trying this one out!
