Gentle Skincare for Sensitive Skin

gentle skincare products for sensitive skin blog post

Those with sensitive skin will know the struggle of finding the perfect skincare essentials that are gentle yet effective. Even those that are blessed with not-so-sensitive skin can benefit by occasionally stepping back from the harsh chemicals and substances that we bombard it with on a daily basis. Whenever my skin is in a rather pitiful state (like recently), I like to rescue it by bringing it back to the basics, featuring products that have really been helping in restoring my skin to a healthier state.

My love for the Sukin Foaming Facial Cleanser (RRP$9.99) is no secret. It is the most effective, gentle cleanser I have come across for sensitive skin. It cleanses without stripping your skin and has a lovely, herbal scent. This is a holygrail item that I swear by and always recommend it.

The Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant* (RRP$71 here) is a recent addition to my routine and has already made it to my list of favourite facial scrubs. It is a powder exfoliator that is rice-based and when mixed with water, it forms a thin creamy substance. This means you get the gentlest and finest (literally) exfoliation that is perfect for sensitive skin. In a way, it feels like you are cleansing and not scrubbing away at your skin. To sum it up, you are left with baby skin and any unevenness is significantly smoother.

One of my absolute skincare essentials is ROSEHIP OIL. I've already harped on about how much rosehip oil has helped my skin and I am excited to share with you some new favorites. These new releases from Rosehip Plus include a Hydrating Day Cream* (RRP$19.95) and a Nourishing Night Cream* (RRP$29.95) and of course, contain the rosehip oil goodness. They are basically a 2-in-1 product and perfect for those that currently mix their moisturisers with rosehip oil.

My skin instantly drinks these up. They provide just the right amount of hydration, with the night cream being appropriately thicker and more moisturising than the day cream. The results are prominent, with my skin looking healthier, plump and clearer. Naturally, they have now become staples in my routine. As an additional note, both of these smell awesome (apparently it's rose geranium but to me it smells like lychees).

Moving onto other parts of the face, I have been pampering my skin with the Pure Rosehip Oil* by ECO(RRP$18). I told you I love this stuff! Now that I'm basically doubling on my rosehip oil, I am truly anticipating a further reduction in pigmentation and scarring. This offering by ECO. is no exception and delivers the same rosehip oil we know and love. I find that one drop is sufficient for my whole face.

I am a bit of an eye cream fanatic and have been loving the NAT. Face Snowflake Eye Gel* (RRP$39). It feels cooling, hydrating and a little goes a long way. It definitely restores the moisture to my under-eyes and soothes them but I have yet to see any improvements on the puffiness and darkness.

My lips are always desperately dry but have recently been kept soft thanks to the Kewda Flower Lip Balm* by Subtle Energies (RRP$16.50). I find that organic ingredients are just unbeatable when it comes to conditioning the lips. The texture is not as soft as a typical balm but what I like to do is take it in chunks and press it into my lips where it instantly melts. The hydration and nourishment I get from this balm is truly one of the best.

These products are definitely winners in my eyes and are not harsh on the skin at all. I think they would be great for everyone, especially those with sensitive skin or who want to give their skin a healthy pick-me-up.

    1. Those were my initial fears too! But I think using a facial oil really helps to balance out your oil production, because your skin produces less of its own oil since you're adding oil, so it reduces the amount of clogged pores you have! You should try it :)

  3. Great post! Rosehip oil is SUCH a staple for me, all year round but especially in Winter - I've been doubling the dosage! The two moisturisers sound so lovely! Also I really want to try the Dermalogica exfoliator, I feel like it would really slough off dead skin without being harsh. The new one from Indeed Labs sounds very similar though much cheaper, so I may have to go for that one!

    1. I KNOW, I can't believe I didn't know what it was two years ago! It has completely saved my skin. Yeah I'm interested in the Indeed Labs one too as it has a similar concept.

    1. Agreed! Oily skin can be pretty hard to manage too, I think I'd rather my dry skin! It's great that rosehip oil balances out your oil production and doesn't increase the oiliness!

  19. Great post, I have sensitive skin and hadn't actually heard of a lot of these brands! Avene makes a lot of products targeted at sensitive skin and they're really affordable. I use Pai's Rosehil Oil and it's beautiful - it really makes a difference to my skin and is so soothing.
