Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation (Review)

Hello Hello!

In this post, I'll be sharing my thoughts on the

Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation

RRP: $12.95

I have it in "100 IVORY" which is the lightest shade and let me just say, it is NOT "ivory". It is actually kind of orange and therefore, does not match me. It leaves an orange patch where I applied it. Thumbs down already.

It comes in a squeezy tube which is pretty easy to use.

This is what the foundation looks like when it comes out. It's a semi-thick cream. It's easy to apply and spread out but I find it does set fast

Now what about it's coverage?

BEFORE
Acne scar galore ...
 AFTER

The only time when having acne scars is a plus is when doing foundation reviews so you get a better idea of the coverage it gives :P

The coverage is LIGHT as you can see from my acne scar friends still peeking through in the after photo.
That's ultimately what disappointed me about this foundation as I need a medium to full coverage foundation. Because it has sheer coverage, it does feel light on the skin.

The finish is semi-matte and unfortunately, I didn't see it do anything in terms of oil control.

Did it break me out?
This is a crucial question for me in terms of any product.
And,
No it didn't.

Overall Rating: 2/5
It has poor coverage, the lightest shade should be renamed "100 Orange" and it did not live up to its claim of "Up to 12 hours natural shine control".

They should also rename it to a Tinted Moisturiser as that's how it performs really.

Sorry about the negative review =/
Let me know if this product worked for you or not!

And... I'm still on the hunt for my HG high coverage foundation. Hmm... maybe Revlon Colorstay next? ;)

xoxo,
Sheri

  1. What a disappointment :( I don't know if you've tried the Maybelline Superstay foundation - it has medium to high coverage and a matte finish.

    1. I actually do have the Maybelline Superstay foundation! I love the coverage and I agree with the matte finish, but I have the wrong colour :(

  3. I do not like this foundation too! It stinks and the color is just so wrong.

  4. Oooo! I heard Estee Lauder Double Wear Maximum Cover Foundation is really good, and has high coverage. I'm actually trying to get my hands on one (without paying RRP), as I do like foundations to work without concealers (i'm lazy).

  5. What a shame! I've never tried this one only because I've heard bad things, especially with the colour. I agree with Abigail though, I'd love to try out the Estee Lauder Double Wear... but not at Australian prices haha! That apparently has great coverage!

  6. Rimmel needs to bring out more shades for those with paler and darker skin! I've read a few reviews of their foundations where the lightest shade is actually quite beige. That's unfortunate that you didn't like the foundation :( I prefer sheer coverage but the fact that it isn't very good at oil control is a big no-no! xx

Definitely give Colorstay a test! When I needed a high coverage foundation it did the job very well :D

  9. I completely agree with your review. I've had this foundation for a while as well but havent done a review, I dont know why they call it 'matte' when it doesnt matte our skin. The coverage is thin and so is the texture, its not great for those looking for spot concealing and lasting and oil control. Im glad you're sharing with everyone!

  14. Thanks for sharing! I've been disappointed with products like this in the past. It can get pretty annoying too. :/

  15. What a shame about this foundation! It definitely looks like it has very sheer coverage despite it being a semi-thick formulation. With the Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation, I'm not too sure if it would be good for acne (it is more better for uneven skintone and redness) as the shimmers in the formula might accentuate any pimples you have :(

  16. Urgh, too bad it didn't work out all that well for you! -.-
I really hate when products mislead you in to thinking something else...
Hopefully the next product you invest in will perform much better!
    Thanks for the review! ^^

  18. Ohhh what a let down! Since it has a kind of thick consistency, I thought the coverage would be better!
