Despite the recent outbreak of drugstore lip products of the matte variety, I still find myself returning to the more moisturizing lip products that offer a hint of shine as well. These include my must-have, everyday products - the tinted lip balm. These keep the lips hydrated as well as minimize space in a makeup bag, as you have a lip balm that also provides some form of colour to the lips.
Recently, Burt's Bees added two new shades to their Lip Shimmers range. I previously reviewed a bunch of their lip products here, including the lip shimmer in Rhubarb. I was quite impressed with the pigmentation of it and today, I shall be rounding up the three lip shimmers I own, including the newly released shades - Apricot and Grapefruit.
(The OCD nature in me was tested with the above photo when I noticed the third tube was not aligned properly with the others...)
The formula of these is really like a hybrid of a lip balm and a lipstick. Moisturizing, yet perhaps not as much as a regular lip balm, and has impressive colour pay-off that would make a lot of other "tinted lip balms" weep. Like the original Burt's Bees Beeswax lip balm, these contain the same menthol, minty feeling, like after a good brushing of the teeth. I normally dislike anything "minty" but these are bearable.
I quite like the slim tubed packaging and the coloured lids that help to differentiate one shade from the other. One minor complaint I have is that after winding the product up, it's difficult to wind it back down to avoid being 'smushed' by the lid.
The Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer in Grapefruit is a very light, shimmery pink that offers a pearlescent look to the lips. Unfortunately, a pale, almost frosty pink isn't the most flattering look on me and I think it could potentially wash a lot of people out but if you're looking for a more muted, nude shade of the bunch, then Grapefruit may be of interest.
Wearing Grapefruit
Apricot is the shade I was the most excited for. It's a peachy pink that leans more peach. When applied to its full opacity, it offers full coverage that almost looks orange. It would be a great choice for Summer.
Wearing Apricot
Lastly, Rhubarb is the lip shimmer I previously showcased in a past review. It is a darker, berry shade that is very appropriate for the current colder seasons in Australia. Naturally, it has the most impressive pigmentation out of the three and it's quite easy to overdo the application and get product all over the outside of the lips. I find it has the longest lasting power due to its tendency to leave a slight stain on the lips.
You would be glad to know that these are 100% natural, containing many beneficial ingredients such as Vitamin E to nourish and maintain soft lips. I would recommend these if you are looking for a tinted lip balm that is actually tinted and doesn't skip out on the moisture factor, plus they're affordable and easily accessible.
Available for AUD $9.95.
These products were kindly provided for consideration, however my opinions are always 100% honest.
Lovely, these product sound really nice! I really like the look of Apricot - typical 'me' colour! Rhubarb sort of looks like Arbonne Jam!
