While writing up this post, I was hit with a wave of nostalgia. There was a period last year where I was pretty much obsessed with the Revlon Lip Butters. They were what I wore on my lips almost everyday and my collection grew rapidly due to the frequent BOGOF offers. Over time, I found many more lip products that I loved even more than these lip butters and naturally, our relationship grew more distant.
I still like them and think they are a nice product (and look exceptionally beautiful all lined up), but I'm not in love with them as I used to be. Hence, I've reached the point where I am satisfied with the shades that I have and do not think I will be buying any more to add to my collection (unless they release an amazing new colour of course).
The main reason why I like these is because I'm a sucker for sheer lip products that you can build up. Usually they feel like a lip balm-lipstick hybrid. I find it a bit hard for everyday wear if the lip product I'm working with is super pigmented, whereas with these, you can simply put on one layer for a sheer wash of colour, or build it up to your heart's desire.
While I enjoy a good matte lipstick, for most of the time I still prefer moisturizing lip products which these definitely are. They have a very soft and creamy consistency; so soft that there is a high risk of these babies melting. I often have to wipe the top of the tube clean as the product is so soft that it tends to smear inside the tube. It is for this reason that I now gravitate towards its counterparts, like the Maybelline Color Whispers which are firmer, yet still provide the same feel and sheerness.
The eight shades I own are:
Sugar Frosting | Strawberry Shortcake | Cotton Candy | Berry Smoothie | Creamsicle |
Juicy Papaya | Tutti Frutti and Candy Apple.
At one stage, I loved all shades but now that I'm reflecting on it, my least worn are probably Sugar Frosting and Creamsicle. These are the sheerest of the bunch and the colours are not particularly flattering on me. Sugar Frosting is basically a very frosty, pale pink and Creamsicle is a nude that I can never seem to pull off without looking like a ghost.
My favorites are Strawberry Shortcake, Berry Smoothie and Juicy Papaya. These prove to be the most wearable and you all know how much I love my baby pinks (like Strawberry Shortcake). Berry Smoothie is what I opt for if I want to a sport a deeper berry lip and Juicy Papaya is a lovely, peachy pink.
L to R: Sugar Frosting // Strawberry Shortcake // Cotton Candy // Berry Smoothie // Creamsicle // Juicy Papaya // Tutti Frutti // Candy Apple |
Available for AUD $21.95.
Do you like the Revlon Lip Butters? What is your favorite shade?
Aah, I remember the hype around these. I only own two, and tbh, I really don't wear them at all! I don't know why because I do remember really loving them, but there are just so many other products in my collection that I'd rather wear. I have to say though, I've had my eye on Juicy Papaya, but the price always puts me off.

Same! And yeah if only the price was lower! But I'd rather buy the Color Whispers.
DeleteWow, your collection is gorgeous. They look so pretty all lined up like that. I own two of these - Sugar Plum and Juicy Papaya - and I actually wear the former a lot, especially during the winter. It's a sort of YLBM shade for me. I like how it's pretty low maintenance and sheer. But I totally agree - they are priced way too high. Berry Smoothie looks gorgeous though, so if I ever decide to buy another one it will probably be that one. Thanks for sharing your collection! :)
ReplyDeleteOh Sugar Plum is another one I might've picked up if I got the chance.
DeleteLove berry smoothie too!
Thanks for reading :) x
You have some really pretty shades!! Berry Smoothie looks gorgeous, I might have to swatch that one in store! I own Juicy Papaya and I love it! I think it's the most wearable peachy/orangey shade you could own!
ReplyDeleteAgreed! Love both shades :) x

ReplyDeleteWow what a gorgeous collection, I love Revlon lip butters. I've wanted to extend my collection on them too but they're just so overpriced for what they are though. They're supposed to be a drugstore product!
ReplyDeleteThe Sunday Chapter x
I know right? Then again, Australian drugstore is overall higher priced anyway xD
DeleteI too, have slowed down the use of my lip butters.... Must bust out Berry Smoothie again for this season I reckon!

Me too! Time to bring it out again!
DeleteOh I remember the hype with all the Revlon Lip Butters! I agree that they do look so pretty though. I only have Berry Smoothie which I find is very wearable but I concur that they are soft and can melt easily which is such a shame! I might need to go try the Maybelline Whispers sometime :)
ReplyDeleteLove Berry Smoothie! I whipped it out today and remembered how much I like it.
DeleteLove your collection there! I only just recently these few weeks added a few more shades to my small one because they are also pricey here but not as pricey as the RP over there! I love the sheer quality and how moist and balm like they are, I have no issues with reapplying and like you said it's nice to be able to build up opacity as we like. The whispers hasn't come to singapore at all yet but I don't care, I love these and totally want more shades! We don't even have the full line either! Bugger!
ReplyDeleteYeah I don't think we have some shades either. I would love to see your collection one day too :)
Deleteloving this! the creamsicle is my favorite

It's great that you can pull off nudes :)
DeleteThese were sooooo hyped and sold out everywhere back when they first came out!! I have a few and still really like wearing Candy Apple and Tutti Futti. My collection was bigger but I lost half of them because I stupidly left my make up bag on a coach! Still haven't repurchased all of them because there's cheaper and newer lipsticks out there to try lol
ReplyDeleteHaha I know right, people were crazy over these.
DeleteCandy Apple is a super wearable red. And oh no! That sucks :( I wouldn't repurchase them if that happened either haha.
Oh really? I personally think they're over hyped but they are still nice, hopefully you like them.
ReplyDeleteGreat collection doll, you've got a really excellent range of shades here :) x

Thank you! I personally think I've got all the ones I would wear :) x
DeleteSuch a lovely post! Your photos are just gorgeous. I definitely want to try some of these lip butters now. I have my eye on Strawberry Shortcake and Tutti Frutti ;)

Thanks Nicola! Your photos are absolutely beautiful!
DeleteGood choices! :) x
Wow you have almost all of them! I have two (funny enough two that you don't have), creme brulee and pink truffle. The formula and pigmentation are great for the Revlon Lip Butters, and these are a must for me in the winter. I am not a huge fan of the two colors I have by themselves, but I think they make a very pretty natural pink when mixed together :)

I've swatched Pink Truffle before and I quite like it! It's a very nice neutral, brownish-pink. I can imagine they would make a great combo! x
DeleteAmazing swatches once again! I loved almost all of the colours but I sadly don't own any of these up until now!! My top 3 would be Juicy Papaya, Tutti Frutti and Candy Apple !! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and I love it! I also just started following you and it would mean a lot if you stopped by my place too and even do the same if you like my blog as well! Keep in touch!
